We have just received the latest quinquennial review (Sept 2024) and this document is key to deciding what projects we need to tackle next.
To begin with, we plan to carry out a ‘basket’ of small, but urgent, repairs, including: –
- Repairs to the Bellringers’ window
- Repairing the vandalism done to the crypt windows
- Reseating coping stones on ‘Postgate’s Folly’
- Repairs to the belfry floor
- Plasterwork by the South Door
We are also (anxiously) awaiting the results of a survey of the lead roof and can but hope that it doesn’t reveal major problems.
In our longer-term plans, we also have in mind more work inside the Church: –
Internal repairs
- Repairs to the door jambs on both the south and north doors
- Dealing with the crumbling plaster on both the north and south walls internally, which will require removal of the pews.
- The pew decking throughout the church needs repair. We plan to remove and re-use what we can of the decking on the two side aisles for the repairs and then replace with flagstones at the sides
- Sound and draft proofing the Lady Chapel to make it a more usable room for church and community use
Ongoing repairs
There are some jobs which require regular annual review and repairs, most notably the church’s roof.
The Churchyard Wall
The three most urgent sections have been repaired but further areas will need attention shortly to prevent further deterioration and collapse.
