Almost all of our attention and energy is now being focussed on the roof of the South Aisle. Despite our annual maintenance programme, lead doesn’t last for ever and a major overhaul is now required.

It is very likely that we will have to completely re-roof the entire south aisle, possibly including the roof of the south porch. Although it is hard to forecast the full cost at this stage, it is unlikely to be less than £100,000! Although £50,000 has already been pledged from reserves (at the cost of postponing other projects) we clearly still have a great deal more money to raise.
We are working in close collaboration with the Parochial Church Council and the church architect. The schedule of works, put simply, will be as follows:-
- Carry out urgent short term repairs
- Lift some areas of the lead to determine what if any water damage has been done to the supporting timbers
- Draw up a schedule of works and put this out to tender
- Fundraising and the seeking of grants to cover the cost
- The work itself is likely to last 2 to 3 months and will require significant scaffolding
Our best guess at the moment is that, with luck and a following wind, the work will be done by summer 2027.
